Eileen Kugler has been on the front lines of
communications for three decades. Her varied background includes
working as a journalist, information director for a federal agency,
manager of several non-profits, and consultant to business and industry.
Graduating from George Washington University with
special honors in Journalism, Eileen spent her early career walking
the beat of a reporter. She was then brought on to lead the communications
program of a major federal agency. She spent nearly 10 years with
the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serving as Director of Information
for the Food Safety and Inspection Service, where she earned a Department
management award. She later served as Assistant to the Administrator
of the agency, specializing in strategic communications issues.
Her work in developing an innovative public information campaign
won the Department's Award for Superior Service.
Eileen moved to the non-profit world, directing the
communications program for Public Voice for Food and Health Policy,
a leading national consumer group. In addition to developing the
communications strategy enabling the organization to gain increased
national and international prominence, Eileen served as an on-camera
spokeswoman, with frequent interviews on both local and network
television. She was quoted in hundreds of publications, ranging
from the New York Times to Good Housekeeping magazine, and Eileen
prides herself on never being misquoted!
Eileen later served as Deputy Director of the Institute
for Science in Society, a non-profit educational organization. She
oversaw the organization's strategic planning efforts and had chief
responsibility for staff supervision.
In 1992 Eileen built on her communications and management
expertise to form KUGLER COMMUNICATIONS. In addition to daily PR
activity, Eileen has an active speaking career. Praised for her
dynamic style, Eileen delivers presentations that are both empowering
and content-rich.
Inspired by the education of her children in one of
the country’s most diverse high schools, Eileen is a national
advocate for multicultural schools. Her book on the unique strengths
of diverse schools, Debunking
the Middle-class Myth: Why diverse schools are good for all kids
was named 2003 Book of the Year by both the National Association
for Multicultural Education and by Delta Kappa Gamma International
Women Educators Honor Society. Eileen was honored as 2004 Virginia
Education Advocate of the Year by the American Association of University
Women.
